Kiamichi Tech Receives Grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund

IDABEL, Okla. – Kiamichi Tech – Idabel's Industrial Technology program recently received the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund Grant for $3200 for pneumatic equipment.

Jay Smith, Industrial Technology instructor, said the equipment that will be purchased with the funds will be used in addition to the basic pneumatics and programmable logic controller (PLC) curriculum that teaches students electrical directional control valves, sensors, and cylinders.

“Knowledge of pneumatics is a fundamental skill for maintenance technicians. Local industries use pneumatic valves and other components in their day-to-day operations,” said Smith.

The Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund supports hundreds of important organizations and programs in the communities where they operate with funding, time, expertise and resources. Weyerhaeuser is a longtime supporter of Kiamichi Tech and the Industrial Technology program.

“I feel that it is important for local industries to buy in to what is taught in our classroom,” said Smith. “I love to see them visit and realize that we are using the same equipment to train students that is at their facilities. This gives students an advantage because they know that we are teaching relevant skills. We always appreciate their support.”
