Kiamichi Technology Center Selects Outstanding Student of the Year

Kiamichi Technology Center selected Vhitney Garner Outstanding student of the year. Vhitney is a student in the Teacher Prep and Early Care and Education Program (TPEC) at Kiamichi Technology Center. Vhitney received a $500 check sponsored by Traditional Craft Homes. After graduating Vhitney plans on attending college and majoring in Business where she hopes someday to own and manage a childcare facility in McAlester.

KTC Graduates Fifteen From Practical Nursing Program

Fifteen Practical Nursing Students from Kiamichi Technology Center in McAlester will graduate at the S. Arch Auditorium in McAlester on Thursday June 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. According to program instructors, Rebecca Dixon and Sheila Jackson, The Practical Nursing Class is an 11 month program, where students compile 1,508 hours of class time and clinical hours. Students attend classes Monday-Friday for 11 months and must pass a rigorous exam in order to graduate.

Guest Speaker for the graduation program is Kevin Priddle, Vice Chairman of the McAlester Regional Health Center Foundation and the former mayor of McAlester.

The nursing profession is growing at a faster than average pace due to an ever increasing aging population. The need for nurses continues to grow throughout Oklahoma and the United States.

The next Practical Nursing Program begins on July 12, 2017 and will continue for 11 months until June of 2018.
