Kiamichi Tech Breaks Ground on New Welding Systems Training Center at Atoka Campus

Kiamichi Tech has started construction on a new Welding Systems Training Center at the Atoka campus, marking a significant investment in workforce development and career training opportunities for students across Atoka and Coal counties. Construction began in September, with the facility expected to be completed in fall 2027.
The new training center will provide students with expanded instructional space, including larger welding booths, and increased hands-on work areas designed to enhance the learning experience.
"Welding continues to be one of the most in-demand skilled trades in our area," said Greg Davidson, Director of Facility Management and Development at Kiamichi Tech. “This project creates more opportunities for students to develop advanced skills in a modern training environment while helping local manufacturers and welding shops build the workforce they need for the future."
Davidson served as the Atoka Campus Director for seven years before being named the district's first Director of Facility Management and Development, giving him firsthand experience with both the educational benefits this expansion will provide students and the workforce impacts it will have for manufacturers and other employers throughout Atoka and Coal counties.
Kiamichi Tech Superintendent Shelley Free said the project represents an investment in both students and the economic future of southeast Oklahoma.
"This facility is much more than a building," Free said. "It is an investment in people, opportunity and the future of our communities. By expanding training capacity and providing students access to state-of-the-art learning environments, we are helping ensure local employers have access to the skilled workforce they need while creating life-changing career opportunities for our students."
The new facility is expected to welcome students in Fall 2027. Learn more about the Kiamichi Tech welding program at ktc.edu/welding.
