Kiamichi Tech to host open house for Center for Workforce Advancement in Durant

DURANT, Okla. – Classes began at Kiamichi Tech’s Center for Workforce Advancement in Durant in March. Formerly the George Washington Elementary School, this newly-renovated facility will serve as the premier workforce training center for Bryan County and the surrounding communities.

The open house will be Tuesday, April 13 from 2 – 6 p.m. The Center for Workforce Advancement is located at 314 East Main Street in Durant.

“We are excited to open the Center for Workforce Advancement up to the community on the 13th so everyone can see how this renovated space will be used to train an emerging workforce,” said Shelley Free, Kiamichi Tech Superintendent. “Our goal with this facility is to help Durant and the surrounding communities move forward with highly-trained industry professionals.”

Community members and local businesses are invited to attend the come-and-go style open house to tour the building, enjoy refreshments from the state-of-the-art culinary training kitchen and learn more about Kiamichi Tech’s workforce and economic development efforts.

We have had business partners and community members excited to see the improvements and renovations made to this 1930s era building,” said Lane Jackson, Kiamichi Tech – Durant Campus Director. “We really wanted to make sure we kept the historic integrity of the building.”

Training for Choctaw Nation's casino expansion project is already underway, as well as a variety of healthcare and safety classes.
