Emergency Medical Services

EMT Basic Classes begin in August:

  • Atoka - August 9, 2010
  • Durant - August 10, 2010
  • McAlester - August 12, 2010
  • Poteau - August 16, 2010
Prerequisites for the basic class:
  • Application completed
  • KeyTrain Assessment
  • Learning Styles
We must also have a Funding Letter or Payment in Full by the first night of class.

The cost of the Basic Class for in-district students is $627.50, out-of-district is $915.00. The Basic portion is NOT PELL elligible.


*The Anatomy & Physiology prerequisite for the Paramedic Class begins at 9:00am February 3, 2011. The following items are required to begin the A & P prerequisite:

  • Please complete and submit enrollment form
  • Verification of funding
  • KeyTrain Assessment
  • Learning Styles
*The deadline to complete your Paramedic Application is March 10, 2011.

Description

This training will allow you many opportunities to work in the health care field. Examples: Ambulance Services; Fire Departments; Hospital Emergency Departments; Clinics; Industrial EMS, including off-shore; and medical flight services.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Must be 18 years of age to be licensed
  • Must take the Key Train Pre-test and Learning Styles Assessment. (available through the Academic Center)
  • High school diploma or GED (financial aid)
  • Must pass the EMT Basic portion before beginning the Paramedic portion.

Drug testing and Criminal background checks will also be required.

  • Emergency Medical Responder
  • Emergency Medical Technician--Basic
  • Emergency Medical Technician--Intermediate
  • Emergency Medical Technician--Paramedic

College Credit Available

There are 45 college credit hours available from OSU/OKC when you attend and co-enroll in this program.

Licensure

Upon successful completion of the Basic portion, the student will receive a certificate of completion and the privilege to sit for the Oklahoma State and National Registry of EMTs examination.

After the student receives the Basic EMT license, s/he may apply for jobs at that level. Successful completion of the EMT Basic is required before beginning the EMT Paramedic.
